Doug's youth was spent in three towns close to each other.
Doug was born on Easter April 9, 1039. He was brought home from the hospital to a farmstead near the little town of Douglas.
The farmhouse is gone on the farm owned by Doug's grandfather, Claude Staggs. Doug's dad, Delmar, taught in the South Elba school not too many miles away but went to work at Caterpillar on 1-2-40.
