Day 003 - Thursday January 3, 2008

What Is It?
Doug's Grandfather Staggs spent his youth near Flemingsburg, Kentucky. He spent much time harvesting and processing tobacco. He chewed tobacco from an early age until he died. His spittoon was a coffee can lined with toilet paper. Red Man Chew was his favorite.

He joined his brothers in Illinois and became a farmhand near Yates City, IL. The boss's daughter became his bride and they had 5 children.

Doug and Marilee's first vacation was with Grandpa Staggs as he visited relatives and friends in Kentucky. Grandpa got tobacco twists to take back home. Above is one he gave to Doug. Pictures of the vacation are below.
